NSW Design Manager,
Mechanical

Do you have a specialty?

I specialise in the design and construction of HVAC mechanicalservices for large scale projects within health, infrastructure and commercialbuildings. I assess the design intent and ensure the maximum benefit can bedrawn from it. In validating the design intent I build fully functioning systemdesigns that integrate with many other disciplines in the real world, balancingthe complexities of performance, cost, buildability and sustainability.

What are you passionate about?

As engineers I believe we have a duty of care to continuallydevelop engineering solutions to suit the changing needs of society. I believewe have faced a halt in our industry by this stigma of a cookie cutter approachwith solutions developed centuries ago. I am passionate about new innovationsand development to address these challenges.

What do you feel women arebringing to the construction industry?

Scaling down to a small range of types of people that have the same mindset is not good for any industry. Women are creative, possessing different collaborative skills and we need more of this in our industry.

What has motivated you through challenging times?

When I've been told I will not succeed, this has continually echoed in my mind.

What is your vision for the future of Mechanical Services?

To change the way we conventionally air condition buildings, to break this cycle we need to change the way we think and approach problems. I've been lucky to work with many intuitive engineers enough to anticipate that we’ll someday get there.
